Love it!!

Super fun board to ride--was shipped within a week and surfed the day I got it. Love having this to lug around on any day.

New daily driver

I have been surfing the 5’4” R-Series daily for about two weeks in smaller Nor Cal surf, point and beach breaks waist to shoulder high. So far, super fun, gets me into mushy slow waves and does well with late drops into step faced shore pound. Enough float and drive to make the reform on the inside and very durable (we had a rock encounter yesterday). GREAT customer service from Jeff and the team at Almond. Interested to see how it plays in some bigger surf as we get into fall and winter but right now, this is my daily driver. FYI - I am 5’10”, 173lbs

Missed expectations

I think I had the wrong expectations for this type of board. I've used it 3 times in pretty good surf and it just felt very sluggish compared to my other boards (which are all traditional construction PU or EPS). I was excited by the idea of having something more environmentally friendly but I expected similar performance. I think that was partially my mistake for having those expectations but it would be helpful to know upfront, what to expect from the R-Series compared to regular surfboards and what it truly works best for. I could see myself using it for shorebreak. If I could return it I would, but I will likely sell the board to someone looking for something like this.

Almond Surfboards

Hi Carl, sorry to hear that. We've put a lot of energy into trying to replicate the feel of a PU+Fiberglass board into a foamie construction. Surfing is obviously all about the feeling it gives you, so can't fault you if this isn't what you were seeking. That said, if you take a high line and set the rail on the 5'4, you might be surprised how much speed it generates. In either case, all the best. Thanks for the feedback.

review of 5'4"

great quality and easy purchase experience....I do wish the board worked a little better, i think if you narrowed the tail and gave it a little concave it would allow for better speed generation and positive feedback when turning.

New favorite

Came in yesterday, took it out same day. All I can say is this board is my new favorite! Easy to paddle, very buoyant, I’m 5’11 160lb and this board is extremely stable and easy to stand up on just like my 9’2 longboard but way easier to transport and way more fun, The no wax deck is very grippy as well. Definitely not my last board from almond!
