The Best Way to Get to Surf
I've had this vision of a dream surf trip planned for a while now and it doesn't use the conventional means of travel. And it got me thinking.. what is your ideal transportation to get to surf?
- Is it pulling up to your favorite break on horseback?
- Taking a boat to some outer island or reef pass?
- Maybe it's that overnight train ride with friends to wake up to sunrise over your favorite break?
Or do you simply dream throughout the week of driving your Sunday car with a cup of coffee and Surfers Journal to overlook the ocean?
Whatever your conventional means of transportation is to surf, make it unorthodox this week. It will bring about a new found relationship and experience to your surfing that day. It may give you that new perspective on your surfing experience. And to be totally frank, some of the best surfing stories I've ever heard or read have much less to do with the riding of waves and a lot more to do with the adventure required to get to waves.
Changing up how you get to the beach may result in a whole new relationship with a wave that you have been surfing your whole life—or it could unlock a new spot that you hadn't considered before.
Just keep this in the back of your mind. Switch your routine up and figure out a less conventional way to get to the surf—getting there can be as much of the adventure as the destination.
