Reducing Manufacturing Waste
The fact that the R-Series line of boards is recyclable is only part of the story. Arguably the bigger impact is the steps we have taken to reduce manufacturing waste. The process of building these boards allows us to generate very little scrap, however there was one area that we identified that we could be doing much better—the Deck Pad.
By adding the 6'4 to the line, we needed to re-look at how we allocate pad material most efficiently across the R-Series range. It quickly became clear that there was an extremely efficient way to go, and a very wasteful way to go. The aim of R-Series since day one has been to eliminate waste—both by making a recyclable product and by reducing the excess we create in manufacturing—so the decision was a relatively easy one...
In an effort to maximize our material efficiency, we are moving to two-piece deck pads on the entire R-Series range. We feel extremely confident in the assembly process and durability of this decision—and although the addition of a small seam may raise some questions, the impact of doing so far outweighs the costs.
We are thrilled to be adding the 6'4 Pleasant Pheasant to our R-Series range, and excited for all that Summer 2020 will hold.
