It's Not A Soft Top

A soft top is designed to get people standing up quickly; the R-Series is designed to be surfed regularly, for years.

At a glance, a lot of surfboards get lumped into the same category.

Soft top. Foamie. Beginner board.

And to be fair, many of them do look similar from a distance. But the way a board is built—and how it’s meant to be used—makes a big difference in how it feels in the water and how long it lasts.

Most traditional soft tops fail in the same place: the seams.

They’re typically built as three separate components—a foam core, a plastic bottom sheet, and a soft deck material—all glued together. Over time, those glued seams take a beating. The most common failure point is the nose, where all three materials meet and absorb repeated impacts.

That’s why you’ll often see older soft tops duct-taped back together, or slowly taking on water after a season or two. They’re designed to get people standing up quickly, but not necessarily to hold up to years of regular use.

The R-Series is different by design.

It’s not a traditional soft top, and it’s not meant to be treated like one. Instead of relying on glued seams, the R-Series uses a molded construction that creates a single, unified structure. The deck has a softer, more forgiving feel underfoot, but the board itself is still refined, responsive, and built to be surfed hard.

The R-Series sits in a different category altogether — a semi-soft, molded surfboard designed for durability and real-world surfing.

That difference shows up in a few important ways.

First, durability. The R-Series is built to handle regular use, bumps, and the inevitable learning moments that come with surfing more often. You don’t have to baby it, and you don’t have to worry about a small knock turning into a terminal issue.

Second, feel. While the deck is more forgiving than a traditional glassed board, the shape underneath is still a proper surfboard. Rails, rocker, and volume distribution are designed with intention, so the board feels predictable and familiar as you progress.

And third, longevity. The goal isn’t to outgrow this board as quickly as possible. It’s to have something you can rely on session after session—something that helps you spend more time in the water, not less.

That’s really the point.

The R-Series isn’t trying to replace every board in your quiver, and it isn’t trying to be something it’s not. It’s meant to be the board you reach for on regular days—the one that makes it easier to get out there, catch waves, and enjoy the time you have.

It’s not a soft top.

It’s a durable, thoughtfully designed surfboard for surfers who want equipment that supports participation, not perfection.
