How Many Surfboards is Too Many Surfboards?
Earlier this spring, we conducted a survey to better understand our customers’ surfing habits, challenges, and goals. One question stood out: How many surfboards do you own? To our surprise, the most common answer was: 5-10 surfboards.
As a minimalist and a married man, I couldn't help but wonder—where do all these boards live? And how do you justify this collection? Hats off to those of you managing this impressive fleet of wave-riding vessels.
But here’s the twist. When asked how many of those boards get regular use, the top responses were two surfboards and one surfboard. This raised an important question: Do we really need 5-10 boards to enjoy a well-rounded surfing experience? At Almond, we believe in the simplicity of a Three-Board Quiver, which covers all conditions while helping you maximize your surfing potential.
Why You Only Need Three Surfboards
A solid quiver ensures you're prepared for all types of waves while keeping your board collection manageable. Here’s how a Three-Board Quiver works:
Small Waves
Most days, especially in Southern California, the waves are small. This is where creativity thrives. Boards like a mid-length or the R-Series Joy let you glide effortlessly while keeping the stoke alive.
Good Waves
When the conditions line up, versatility is key. A board like The Rover or Performance Twin delivers speed, responsiveness, and reliability for those memorable sessions.
Lousy Waves
Not every day is ideal, but with the right board, even junky waves can be fun. The R-Series Joy shines here, transforming subpar surf into a session you’ll still smile about.
Big Waves
For surf trips or seasonal swells, you need something built for paddle power and control. The Pleasant Pheasant is my go-to for catching waves early and riding with confidence in larger surf.
My Personal Quiver
Currently, I rely on three boards:
- The Rover for good-to-average surf.
- The Pleasant Pheasant for small or big waves.
- The R-Series Joy for low-stress fun or less-than-perfect conditions.
- These boards cover everything while keeping my garage clutter-free—and my wife happy!
