Love the Rseries Board! I’m not a shortboarder at all. I’m able to catch fun ones on it. Super buoyant!
First Nonbendy Softtop
I was blessed with a 5' 4" Secret Menu for Christmas two years ago. If you are looking for a board to occupy that slot in your quiver and you have been hemming and hawing over whether to make the jump for a softop, this board will handle your needs and requests. I had had many experiences on softtops when the board felt flexy, loafy and noticeably different than a fiberglass board. These Almond boards feel about as close to a hardtop board that I have experienced. Plus, the Futures fins, quad setup are solid. The board, itself, is super durable. I take it out in all kinds of conditions and prefer it when things are a bit out-of-control and I am likely to ding my board from just getting generally slammed. It also paddles well, getting me into slower waves with ease. It also is super maneuverable and probably handles whatever turn you would expect from a wide-tail, quad, mini-Simmons like board. Plus, not having to wax your board and then being able to just through this small thing in your back seat makes it a great board to grab at the last second or keep in your car for quick sessions. If you are on the fence, I would definitely give this board a shot. (It's a bargain!)
Perfect for every beach day
Perhaps the thing I love most about this board is how easy it is to put in the car every time I head to the beach. The small footprint and quality build bring a peace of mind that is just not the same with a fiberglass board. Most importantly, it's super fun to surf with! It's relatively easy to paddle and hangs in waves pretty well. The only downside is that I have a difficult time getting it to turn, but on a wave with a good line this thing likes to play.
Family Feud!
So I got the board for my son. I wanted something better than your standard foamy that turns as well as a garage door. Something durable he could be a little careless with and I wouldn’t have to fret over. Now it’s just causing a family feud over who uses it! I finally got it away from him and tried it out. I was happily surprised at how I could actually turn and how stable it is. It’s not so heavy that it just beats him up in the wash and he can carry it from the car to the break. The only draw back of this board I’ve seen is that the top is very grippy. Not that that is bad it’s just that you definitely don’t want to ride without a rash guard! Overall, we’ve been loving it. Thank you Almond!
