17 Years of Almond Surfboards

Today we celebrate 17 years since we first opened the doors of our humble surfboard shop in our hometown.

Surfing is one of the few activities that forces you to operate fully present in the moment. You watch the ocean, read the waves, and react to what shows up. Whether it’s a quiet moment alone or a rowdy hootin' and hollerin' session shared with friends, surfing is a uniquely grounding experience.

For the last 17 years we’ve had the privilege of playing a small role in helping surfers go surfing—building thoughtful boards and sharing what we’ve learned along the way.

I remember early conversations with Griffin that regularly centered around two themes:

  1. The realization that the boards we were building were going to see waves and beaches we would never see with our own eyes.
  2. An obsession with making boards we’d still be stoked on 40+ years from now.

I met a guy the other day at a coffee shop. When he learned what I did for work, he lit up and said, “I have one of your longboards that I bought off Facebook Marketplace years ago. It’s my favorite board!

And honestly, that is more or less what keeps us going.

Longevity isn’t loud or flashy in the moment. It’s just the result of paddling in the same direction for a long time.

We’re incredibly grateful to build equipment that adds something meaningful to the lives of the folks we serve.

Do us a favor and catch a wave for us this week.
