The Unmatched Beauty of Balsa
Balsa wood has deep roots in surfboard building, because it is a lightweight and incredibly strong species of wood. Before the advent of polyurethane foam, in 1950, balsa wood was the preferred medium for surfboard shapers.
72 years after the first foam surfboards were produced, we are pleased to present to you the best of both worlds:
This 9'4 Surf Thump model is shaped from a lightweight EPS core and then sandwiched in an outer shell of genuine balsa wood.
The result is a board that is strong, lightweight and stunningly beautiful.
This unique construction is made possible by collaborating with our friend Jeff Beck of Nine Lights Surfboards, who specializes in this "wood over foam" surfboard construction method.
This 9'4 Surf Thump with the black stripe is a 1/1 and was hand-built from start to finish at Jeff's surfboard shed. Signed by both Griffin Neumann-Kyle and Jeff Beck.
