When The First South Swell Arrives
·
·
Do you remember the feeling of summer's first real South swell?
It's the anticipation rather than the actual event that ignites our souls.
The smell of the ocean's salty breeze coming through your window—and you can almost hear the waves crash upon the shore, even if you live far from the coastline.
New waves are coming to life as the swell direction changes from a northerly direction to a southerly direction.
The Antarctic storm systems are almost alive!
I'm personally excited for a few of my favorite rocky coves to start breaking as it has had its winter slumber. And in my preparation, I will mostly be surfing rocky reef breaks and some Mexican point breaks. On some Sundays, I like to have a long beach day, where I bring my Plez Phez R-Series. I go between the water and the shade of my umbrella all day long. I never go to the beach without it.
And depending on the size of the waves, I have my trusty 6'6 Plez that I absolutely love. It's perfect for long drawn out cutbacks and highlines - especially at the rocky points. When the waves are smaller, I ride the Rover for more fast paced groveling and speed.
I hope you too are prepared for the summer swells ahead. And start to think about what waves you will want to surf and what boards you will want to ride!
Our Surfboard Matching Tool is a great guide if you are unsure what boards to ride in the conditions you are wanting to pursue.
And you can always call our shop (949) 270-6604 and ask for me, Austin! I love helping people find harmony in their equipment to their ideal conditions.
