When you make a surfboard that people really love, it makes sense to pay attention to why it works.
The Pleasant Pheasant has become one of those surfboards we keep coming back to. Many of our staff, team, and friends have labeled it their “one board quiver.” Even our shaper Griff has said it's his favorite board to shape and ride.
So when it came time to revisit the Big Bueno Fish, it made sense to borrow some notes from the Plez Phez.
This is the first BBF to share many of the characteristics that make the Pheasant work so well. You'll notice the nose looks different, but the rocker, foil, and rails are now drawing HEAVY inspiration from the Phez as well.
We're taking the foundation of something we already love and modifying it to make a quad fish. The goal is to keep the paddle power and bigger-board feel that people like about the BBF, while giving it more of the responsiveness we've come to love in the Phez.
And when you put it alongside the other boards in the lineup, its place starts to make a sense.
The BBF fits nicely between the shorter, more compact Survey and the longer Pleasant Pheasant. The Survey has the tightest turning radius and offers the most control, while the Pleasant Pheasant provides the most flow and down-the-line speed. With the changes we've made to the BBF, it now sits pretty comfortably between the two. You get more of the speed and flow of the Pheasant, packed into the shorter, wider outline of a quad fish.
