"The Perfect Almond Surfboard" (According to Our Team)
Today, I asked our team what their idea of the "perfect Almond Surfboard" is. I handed them each an order card and asked them to fill it out to reflect their perfect board.
Surfing is inherently subjective, as everyone prefers different waves, equipment, and approaches... and the answers to this question were no different... varied.
In no particular order, here are the selections by the team here:
Griffin NK:
6'6 Pleasant Pheasant w/ Burnt Red tint
Editor's Note: This one didn't come as a huge surprise, Griffin has on multiple occasions before say that if he could only shape & ride one board for the rest of his life, it would be the Pleasant Pheasant.
Austin Cooper:
6'3 Beyond and Back with Kelp tint
Editor's Note: This answer didn't surprise me and is thick with recency bias... I know Austin has been riding the Beyond and Back none stop lately. It makes a lot of sense though... this board offers speed and flow on rail, and tight cutback turns.
Erica Swanson:
7'2 Mini WoW w/ Kelp tint
Editor's Note: I wasn't sure which direction Erica was going to go, but I can see the user-friendly nature of the Mini WoW being an attractive choice here.
Jeffrey Allee:
8'0 Joy with Sage tint
Editor's Note: I figured Jeff was going to choose something popular and versatile. The Joy fits the bill here, a great selection in the first round of this one-round draft.
Dave Allee:
7'6 Mini WoW with Sage tint (and a poppy logo)
Editor's Note: Speaking of recency bias... this was a difficult decision for me, as I feel like choosing one board is like choosing a favorite kid, but I had a really fun session on a 7'6 Mini WoW recently and the memory of that was too fresh to ignore.
Jake Lutz:
6'2 Twin Pheasant w/ Steel Blue tint
Editor's Note: Jake's selection of a twin fin version of the Plez Phez was more predictable than when Wemby was the #1 overall pick in the NBA draft last year. He has one, feels like he should be credited with inventing it, and surfs it all the time. A solid pick here, even if it is slightly off the usual menu.
Drew Meseck (not technically staff, but important nonetheless):
5'0 Special Recipe Fish w/ Burnt Red Tint
Editor's Note: I wanted to get Drew's feedback on this challenge because he has had a WIDE variety of Almond Surfboards over the last 10-12 years. He chose the 5'0 Special Recipe Fish because "I’ve surfed it around the world in a lot of different waves and it enjoys them all."
Megan Goodman:
Declined to participate due to something call "End of Year Accounting".
Conclusion:
What do you think? Do you like the selections made here? Were you as surprised as I was that a true longboard didn't get picked? What is your idea of the "perfect" Almond Surfboard? Let us know...
