Want to Surf More?
If you’re like most surfers, the biggest challenge isn’t perfecting your cutback or extending your noserides—it’s finding the time to surf. When we surveyed our customers, the most common surfing goal wasn’t “get barreled” or “travel to Indonesia.” It was simply: “surf more.”
Today, we’re here to help you overcome the obstacles keeping you out of the water and make more time for the thing you love.
1. Shift Your Perspective
Surfing is good for your health—mentally, physically, and emotionally. It’s not just recreation; it’s self-care. By reframing surfing as something essential, you might find it easier to prioritize.
We all know we need exercise, right? Surfing can replace a trip to the gym or another extracurricular activity, all while delivering a dose of Vitamin D and leaving you with a smile. Even just one session a week can have a big impact.
2. Adjust Your Expectations
We’ve all been there: the waves look subpar, and you’re tempted to skip a session. But here’s the secret: don’t check the Surfline cameras—just go.
Grab a fun board, paddle out, and embrace whatever the ocean offers. Some of the most enjoyable sessions come when expectations are low, and the waves surprise us. The truth is, no one ever regrets a surf, even in terrible conditions.
3. Prioritize Short Sessions
Think you need hours to make surfing worth it? Think again. If you’ve got an hour to spare—even if 20 minutes is spent driving to the beach—it’s still worth it.
That 20-minute surf session might be just what you need to reset your mind and recharge your body. The mental and physical benefits far outweigh most other uses of your time.
4. Put It on the Calendar
If you’re serious about surfing more, treat it like any other priority in your life. Schedule it.
Block out a midweek surf session or plan to join us at the next Early & Often Surf Club meet-up. When surfing is on your calendar, it’s more likely to make it into your schedule.
5. Make Surfing a Priority
It might seem counterintuitive, but when you commit to making surfing a priority, time has a way of opening up. It’s amazing how being intentional and focused with your schedule can create space for the things that matter most.
This year, let’s all aim to surf more. Personally, I’m planning to focus less on wave quality and more on wave quantity. I hope to see you out there, whether it’s at dawn for a quick session or in less-than-perfect conditions.
The only session you’ll regret is the one you didn’t paddle out for. Let’s make it happen.
