Gratification
Since the earliest days of Almond, I've been obsessed with the idea of making surfboards that will be used and enjoyed long after we're gone.
I say that realizing that we live in a world of quick wins and instant gratification.
Surfboards aren't made quickly and the greatest enjoyment in surfing lies in the delayed gratification—waiting on that new board, waiting on that next swell, waiting on that next set wave to come.
But all that waiting makes those fleeting moments when you're flying down the line on the wave of the day all the more priceless.
Years ago, Cam Oden designed a poster for us that said "Invest the Time, Commit to the Process", which I still have hanging in my office. It's a good reminder that the really good stuff is worth waiting for.
Allow yourself to mind-surf every once in a while. Dream of that moment when the perfect wave swings your way and you prepare to turn and go!
Surfing is a life-long pursuit, and so is building surfboards. We're over 15 years into this, and we're still convinced our best days are ahead of us; and we're still committed to the idea that our surfboards will out-last us. I'm hoping your grandkids learn to surf on your favorite Almond.
